Course: City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 and Level 3
I have just completed my ACS gas qualification in less than a year at The Plumbing Academy, in Edenbridge. I got made redundant last year after working 26 years in an office, and with the economy and job situation, I thought how could I narrow the odds in my favour to get a job. So I went for plumbing and heating as not many females are in the trade.
I went to a couple of places before I chose The Plumbing Academy, and I chose this because they took me seriously and made me feel welcome.
Christine Herring Training was fine; you just had to take your time. The lads were quite competitive with each other, but I just let them get on with it. I had fantastic classmates in both Level 2 and Level 3 and they made me feel part of the team. Lots of exams throughout the whole course, physical work was ok, again just take your time. Content of the course was ok, lots of reading, but who would have thought that every pipe and every fitting in your house has a name. You do get there in the end, but you do feel sometimes like information overload.
Facilities of The Plumbing Academy were great, including the lecture rooms, but some fittings do need to be replaced more often.
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I feel that I could ring if I had any problems.
For my future plans, I would like to work 3 days a week with a company and 2 days for myself working mainly on annual servicing, boiler fault finding and repairs. I'm not into boiler installs, but would always have a go.
Yes, I would recommend The Plumbing Academy because I had a great time and I would like to thank all the staff for their fantastic help and patience.
