The first step to becoming a fully trained plumber begins with the City and Guilds 6129, Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing. Our fully qualified plumbing lecturers will provide you with all the technical knowledge and practical skills you need to become a successful Domestic Plumber as well as attaining the industry recognised City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 Technical Certificate.

The Plumbing Academy is an Approved Training Centre for City & Guilds. Located within easy travelling distance of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London and Essex, we offer purpose built training facilities to a range of people looking to enter the plumbing trade.

Because this plumbing course is delivered in modules, one step at a time, it can be undertaken both on a full-time or a part time basis. The part-time option is particularly helpful to those people who would like to change career, but can’t afford to give up their job just yet.

Full time option: 10-12 weeks at The Plumbing Academy, Edenbridge.  Up to one third of your time is spent in the classroom learning the theory of plumbing. You will receive excellent 1 to 1 and group tuition from our award winning lecturers. The majority of the time will, however, be spent in the state-of-the-art workshops, because you can only really learn how to become a great plumber with hands on training and practice. There are no limitations on the use of our tools or the amount of materials you need to learn how to become an outstanding plumber and develop a reputation for quality.  To obtain the qualification we will support you through a range of on-line and practical assessments.

Part-time option: We provide you with all the study material you need to be able to learn the theory of plumbing in your spare time. This is not always as easy as it sounds but you also have complete flexibility to attend any one of our theory classes or contact the lecturers should there be anything you don’t’ fully understand. There is also a 24/7 online learning toolkit available directly through City & Guilds.  You will then need between 30 and 40 days of practical hands on training in our workshops. You will receive 1 to 1 teaching as well as being able to join existing groups who might be at the same stage as you.  This is a great way to learn if you are considering a career change, and want to upskilland prepare yourself before making the change.

Most candidates go on to obtain the City & Guilds 6089 NVQ. This consists of assessments taking place outside of the Plumbing Academy training centre to test your competency as a plumber in the marketplace. Obtaining both the City & Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate and the NVQ is what companies look for when they are seeking fully qualified plumbers.

NOTE: From April 2012, City and Guilds are combining the 6129 Technical Certificate with the 6089 NVQ to make the City & Guilds 6189 Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating and we will be offering this course when the change-over takes place.
