General Domestic Electrician [Full Time]

The first step to becoming a fully trained electrician begins with the combination of several core electrical courses, which incorporate basic electrical training together with relevant City & Guilds Electrical Qualifications at beginner level.

Our fully qualified electrical lecturers will provide you with all the technical knowledge and practical skills you need to become a competent General Domestic Electrical Installer.

The Plumbing Academy is an Approved Training Centre for City & Guilds Plumbing and Electrical Courses. Located within easy travelling distance of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London and Essex, we offer purpose built training facilities to a range of people looking to become qualified household electrical installers.

There are 4 electrical courses that can be taken separately or done together that make up the Domestic Electrical Installer Course. If the courses are completed back to back you will qualify as a General Domestic Electrical Installer in 15 days.

These electrical courses contain classroom theory training, (30%) and practical workshop training, (70%). All equipment and tools are provided for use during the course but any books required for the course will need to be purchased before the course begins.

The different electrical courses cover the following

• Ring Main circuits
• Basic and 2 way lighting circuits
• Radial power circuits
• Earth bonding procedures
• Calculating cable sizes and load demands
• Health and Safety
• Electrical regulations
• Three phase systems and safe isolation procedures


Part P Building Regulations/Foundation Training (5 days)
This 5 day course is split into two elements, it gives you practical knowledge and a safe introduction and grounding into the world of the electrician. This element consists of 30% classroom theory and 70% practical workshop time. It will give you enough confidence to undertake  any DIY type domestic electrical work. You will be able to rewire a house including all lighting, power and earthing.
The second element, teaches you how to undertake electrical work in accordance with Part P Building Regulations. It prepares you and gives you sufficient knowledge to call an electrical body such as NIC or NAPIT to come and review the standard of your work and sign you off as a member. The course prepares you to pass the Competent Persons Scheme assessment that organisations such as NIC or NAPIT will require before allowing you to become a registered member.

City & Guilds 2382-10 17th Edition Wiring Regulations (3 days)
This is an essential electrical qualification - every practicing electrician must have their wiring regulations certificate (17th Edition). This intense course is classroom based, with an online test and qualifies the candidate to obtain the 17th Edition wiring regulations.

City & Guilds 2377 Portable Appliance Testing (1 day)
This is a 1 day practical qualification. The candidate will learn how to test portable electrical appliances with the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (a legal requirement for all businesses).

City & Guilds 2392 Testing & Inspection (5 days)
The City & Guilds 2392 inspection and testing qualification is the domestic electrical qualification for testing and inspection of single phase up to 230 volts. Both theory and practical, involving 1 to 1 assessments, you will learn all aspects of safety, including isolating your own and others work. The qualification includes fault finding, compliance with regulations and certification showing you are competent to undertake electrical work.
