Identify which category of gas industry entrant you are classed as:
CAT 1:
A gas engineer who holds ACS or ACOPs certificates which have expired.
A gas engineer who holds certain foreign gas qualifications.
Requirement:
• 10 day gas foundation course or refresher training (depending on current knowledge.)
• CCN1 & appliance full assessments
CAT 2
An individual who has between 3 – 5 years provable experience (by C.V.) in plumbing or a related industry but currently holds no formal plumbing or related qualifications.
Requirement:
10 day Gas Foundation Course.
A portfolio to be produced containing approx 70 days documented work under the supervision of a Gas Safe engineer.
CCN1 & appliance full assessments
Or: CAT 2
An individual who has less than 3 year’s experience in plumbing or a related industry, but holds a formal plumbing or related industry qualification i.e. NVQ level 2
Requirement:
City & Guilds 6129 / NVQ level 3 – 13 week course (3 days per week)
A portfolio to be produced containing approx 70 days documented work under the supervision of a Gas Safe engineer.
CCN1 & appliance full assessments
CAT 3
An individual who has between 3 – 5 years provable experience (by C.V.)in plumbing or a related industry but currently holds no formal plumbing or related qualifications.
Requirement:
10 day gas foundation course.
A portfolio to be produced containing approx 150 days documented work under the supervision of a Gas Safe engineer.
CCN1 & appliance full assessments
On completion of the portfolio of work based evidence the student will be in aposition to undertake their ACS CCN1 CPA1 assessments (3 day duration).
Gas Safe Registration:
On successful completion of the ACS CCN1 assessments, the student will be classed as a CAT 1 and the qualification will be registered with BPEC by the PlumbingAcademy.
This qualification leaves the individual qualified and in a position to register with Gas Safe. Gas Safe is employed by the government to regulate Gas safety. It is the responsibility of the individual to register with Gas Safe.To work on gas legally the individual must be registered with Gas Safe.
